About

The Rangihau Valley is a nature reserve alongside the Coromandel State Park. A historical area that was up the Rangihau Valley from Gumtown, a town of 3,000 people in it’s heyday.

Kauri was logged up the Rangihau in the mid 1800’s and on into the early 1900’s before it was renamed Coroglen.  It has also seen gold mining, flax and Kauri gum collecting.

The paddocks became a market garden set up by Chinese for the loggers, gold miners and workers. The road winds up a gorge to the start of the eastern side Pinnacles track.

Rangihau Valley Homestead is a large 4 bedroom kauri and native timber villa with surrounding verandah on 17 acres of lifestyle farm with a river boundary. It has been occupied since 1929 as part of a larger farm.

The large villa-style house was bought up the road in parts in 1980 by the previous owners and a large kitchen/family room built on. Extensive native timber floors and stained glass window work was added plus an American style 3 bay barn.

Today hosts Sally and Ian offer an affordable wedding venue which has hosted a music festival, equestrian camps and have a glamping site by the river. They also run horses and some stock on the property.
